Top 5 Genres where Productivity Outpaces Hype By over 30 Points*

While the noise concentrates around a few over-indexed genres, experimental electronic and deep house are quietly running away with the real output.

* Built on the vocumi data set as of this publish date. Full note.

We love a good story, but the data is telling a different one this week. Across the vocumi platform, 52.3% of tracked careers are actively rising, yet the attention isn't going where the work is actually getting done. If you are still chasing noisy signals in oversaturated lanes, you are missing the massive productivity surge happening right under your nose.

The massive deep house disconnect

Stop looking at social chatter to tell you who is working. In deep house, we are seeing a staggering 40.4-point gap between hype and actual productivity across 21 tracked artists. The hype score sits at a modest 56.1, but the productivity score is nearly maxed out at 96.6. This is the definition of a sleeper market: artists are putting in massive work, dropping tracks, and building catalog, while the broader scout pool is looking elsewhere.

Experimental electronic takes the lead

If you want to know where the active heat is moving, look at experimental electronic. It led all vocumi score gains this period, jumping 16.2 points to land at a score of 62.2 (up from 46.0 prior) across 83 tracked artists. This isn't just a flash in the pan; it represents a genuine shift in scout attention and platform momentum. East coast hip hop also showed strong movement, climbing 12.8 points to a 72.8 score.

Where the output is outpacing the buzz

Deep house isn't the only space where artists are out-producing their hype. Indie folk shows a massive -35.1 point gap, with a near-perfect productivity score of 98.4 across 37 artists, while its hype lags at 63.3. Folk and neo-soul follow close behind, both posting gaps wider than 30 points. When productivity outpaces hype by this margin, it usually means one thing: you have a window to sign or partner with highly active creators before the rest of the market bids up their value.
