Getting into the scout pool isn't easy. Out of 3,124 tracked artists, only 117 have cleared the scout score threshold of 80. That is a razor-thin 3.75% clearance rate. The vast majority of those who make the cut are sitting in the 80 to 89 range, with a tiny handful of just 2 artists hitting the elite 95-to-100 bracket. If you are waiting for a perfect score before you reach out, you are missing the real movement. The action is in the middle bands.
Hip-hop and R&B are punching way above their weight
Pop might have the highest headcount with 14 artists, but it is actually underperforming relative to its massive footprint. The real signal is in the over-index rates. Hip-hop is indexing at a massive 6.66 compared to its presence in the wider catalog. Contemporary R&B and standard R&B are also surging, indexing at 2.48 and 2.25 respectively. We are seeing a highly concentrated pool of high-potential urban talent that is vastly outperforming its catalog share.
The dark horse genres with zero baseline footprint
Keep an eye on dance-pop, post-punk, and trap. These genres have essentially zero representation in the general catalog share but have landed 11, 8, and 6 artists respectively straight into the scout pool. This isn't a slow burn; it is a sudden, highly concentrated cluster of high-performing outliers. If your A&R pipeline is ignoring post-punk because it doesn't show up on standard market reports, the scout pool is telling you a very different story.
